The main objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between adult reading practice and the development of children's language. To this end, a qualitative bibliographic research was conducted considering physical books and digital articles. The author also drew upon her experience as a literature teacher in early childhood education, where she observed that, in literature classes, children are subjected to strong linguistic stimuli and the teacher makes extensive use of resources such as exaggerated intonation, good articulation, rhymes, repetition of syllables and sounds—in short, resources that facilitate both the perception of the sounds (phonemes) of the language and their production. Research has indicated that the consistent practice of reading aloud to children has a positive impact on lexical and phonological development, among other linguistic skills.
