Abstract

Life Skills correspond to a set of cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral competencies that help individuals effectively deal with the demands and challenges of everyday life. In the sports context, these competencies are consolidated as fundamental elements for the comprehensive development of children and young people, fostering learning and the construction of healthy and participatory life trajectories. However, simply experiencing educational or sports activities does not, in itself, guarantee the acquisition of these skills. The literature highlights the importance of pedagogical intentionality, that is, the conscious planning of strategies that guide educational processes. This implies clarifying the connections between what is learned in sports contexts and its application in other areas of life, such as social interaction, family, work, and citizenship. Therefore, it is the coach's role to assume the role of critical mediator, transforming experiences into opportunities for personal and social development. Teaching Life Skills goes beyond the technical dimension of sports education, becoming an ethical and political commitment to developing critical, autonomous, and socially responsible individuals. The debate about what these skills are and why they should be taught becomes essential to rethinking pedagogical practices and expanding the boundaries of education and sports as spaces for social transformation. Therefore, the objective of this article is to understand how these skills can be intentionally developed in educational settings, with an emphasis on sports practice as a formative space.
