Justification and Objectives: Fibromyalgia, characterized as a chronic pain syndrome, substantially impacts a considerable fraction of the world's population, not only manifesting itself through persistent pain, but also compromising the quality of life of affected individuals. The present scoping review was conducted with the aim of probing the interaction between fibromyalgia and executive functions. These refer to a sophisticated set of cognitive skills that encompass, but are not limited to, inhibitory control, emotional regulation, strategic planning, and judicious decision-making. Method: To carry out this review, the keywords "fibromyalgia" and "executive functions" were used in a systematic search in the PubMed, Scilit and Virtual Health Library databases. We chose to include studies published in the time interval from 2018 to 2023. The purpose of this review was to provide a holistic and up-to-date perspective on the findings and insights in the literature on the interrelationship between fibromyalgia and executive functions. Results: Among the challenges highlighted in the literature, the complexity inherent to the etiology of fibromyalgia, the time lapse frequently observed until the correct diagnosis, and the presence of concomitant comorbidities stand out. Conclusion: These variables can potentially interfere with the patient's therapeutic adherence and, consequently, with the proposed intervention strategies.
