The aim of this study was to conduct an integrative literature review relating language development and hearing impairment. The search was carried out in the Portal Capes, Bireme, SciELO, PubMed, and Scopus databases, using the descriptors "Hearing Loss," "Late Diagnosis," "Child Language," "Language Development," "Neonatal Hearing Screening," and "Early Intervention," in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Studies published from 2015 to 2026 that investigated the relationship between delayed diagnosis and language impairment in children aged 0 to 12 years with hearing loss were considered. After removing duplicates and applying the criteria, articles were selected based on their title and abstract, and subsequently read in full. These were organized into three thematic areas: Literacy; barriers to diagnosis and early intervention; family context. Twenty-two studies were included and separated according to the main areas affected. It was possible to identify that childhood hearing loss significantly compromises language development when diagnosis is delayed. Family and school play very important roles in the prognosis of children with hearing loss. Furthermore, the low level of national scientific production on the subject indicates an urgent need for research that considers the Brazilian reality, implementing more public policies for hearing screening and childhood rehabilitation.
