Los schwannomas son tumores benignos de crecimiento lento que se localizan en la vaina de Schwann de las neuronas del plexo mientérico del octavo par craneal. Los schwannomas del tracto gastrointestinal (TGI) son tumores mesenquimales poco frecuentes de células fusiformes, recubiertas por nervios periféricos.
