VACUNACIÓN CONTRA EL HERPES ZÓSTER Y LA VARICELA EN LA EDAD PEDIÁTRICA: UNA REVISIÓN NARRATIVA

Resumen

El herpes zóster (HZ) es una enfermedad causada por la reactivación del virus varicela-zóster. Afecta la piel y los nervios, causando una erupción cutánea dolorosa y puede provocar complicaciones graves como neuralgia posherpética y disminución de la agudeza visual. Su incidencia es alta después de los 50 años y en personas inmunodeprimidas, y menos frecuente en la edad pediátrica. La infección previa por el virus varicela-zóster y la vacunación contra la varicela son factores importantes en el desarrollo de la enfermedad en niños. Actualmente, la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) recomienda la vacunación contra la varicela en los programas de vacunación infantil de rutina. Los estudios consistentes sobre el herpes zóster en la infancia y su relación con la vacunación contra la varicela son limitados. Por lo tanto, este artículo tuvo como objetivo analizar la enfermedad en niños menores de 18 años, su prevalencia, particularidades y complicaciones, y la relación entre el herpes zóster en la infancia y la vacunación contra la varicela.
