EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL IMPACTS: AN ANALYSIS OF EDUCATIONAL DATA IN THE AGRESTE REGION OF ALAGOAS

Ensuring quality basic education in Brazil is crucial both nationally and globally, essential for societal progress. This study focuses on the Agreste Alagoano region, examining the age-grade distortion rate and the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) in mathematics for the initial and final years of elementary education. Data were collected from a sample of municipalities in Alagoas and statistically analyzed to identify patterns and trends. The results reveal significant variation in age-grade distortion among municipalities, with an average of 17.99% in the initial years and 37.26% in the final years, highlighting ongoing issues in school progression. The negative correlation between age-grade distortion and academic performance in mathematics suggests that as distortion increases, performance tends to decrease. This study underscores the need for targeted and effective educational policies that address multiple factors, such as teaching quality, available resources, and socioeconomic conditions, to promote a more equitable and high-quality basic education in the Agreste Alagoano region.
