EDUCATION FOR POLITICAL CLASSICS

Abstract

The relationship between politics and education has been a topic of debate both in academic and social contexts. Therefore, this article aims to examine how some classic authors of political science approached the subject of education in their time. By selecting works from Hobbes, Locke, and Montesquieu, this article will discuss the central idea that each of these classic authors had about education. To highlight the main conclusions, it is worth noting that according to Hobbes, people's education should be directed towards favoring the sovereign. In Locke's perspective, education takes place in a private environment but always with the aim of preserving good manners and ways of living together. For Montesquieu, the education of the people should be given according to the political regime, providing its maintenance. It can be concluded that education and politics are intrinsically linked since the conception of classic authors of political science.
