The present study is a systematic review aimed at analyzing the psychometric properties of the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS). The scale was developed in China and has been used in several countries; however, the central question here is how many studies have actually examined its psychometric properties and what results were obtained. This scale conceptualizes emotional intelligence as a set of mutually related abilities. It consists of 16 items and is composed of four dimensions: self-emotional appraisal, others’ emotional appraisal, regulation of emotion, and use of emotion. The study was registered with the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews. Searches were conducted in the following databases: APA PsycInfo, SCOPUS, Web of Science, PubMed/MEDLINE, and LILACS. Article selection, data extraction, and evaluation were carried out independently by the authors, using software such as EndNote and Excel to manage duplicates and organize information. A total of 389 articles were found, of which 18 were selected to comprise the systematic review. The ROBUST tool was used to assess risk of bias. Most studies focused on confirmatory factor analysis, and the results confirmed the original four-factor model of the scale, providing strong evidence of its validity and reliability. Studies that focused on testing measurement invariance showed good results in their respective contexts. Studies analyzing sex-based invariance indicated score differences.
