Abstract

Leadership is one of the most debated topics in management and organizational behavior literature, gaining increasing relevance in light of the social, economic, and cultural transformations of the 21st century. Classical models autocratic, laissez-faire, democratic, transformational, situational, and adaptive have offered important contributions, but reveal limitations regarding the integration of ethical, inclusive, and sustainable values. In this context, the purpose of this article is to critically analyze the main approaches to leadership discussed in the literature and to present republican leadership as an emerging model capable of addressing contemporary demands. Methodologically, this is a narrative literature review, qualitative in nature, with an exploratory and descriptive approach. Classical works and recent studies published in the last five years were examined and organized into thematic categories covering concepts, theories, and leadership styles. The results of the review indicate that, although traditional models remain relevant, there is still a gap in integrating organizational objectives with social values. In this regard, republican leadership emerges as an innovative proposal, grounded in principles such as transparency, ethics, justice, inclusion, social responsibility, and humanism, allowing for the reconciliation of organizational efficiency and collective well-being. It is concluded that republican leadership constitutes a promising paradigm with the potential to strengthen organizational climate, value human capital, and promote more ethical, inclusive, and sustainable institutions. Future empirical studies are recommended to validate its applicability in different organizational contexts, contributing to its theoretical and practical consolidation.
