THE COPING OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN HEALTH IN VULNERABLE TERRITORY: A SCOPE REVIEW

Domestic violence is a public health problem that has existed since the dawn of humanity and is rooted in gender inequalities and the concentration of power. Therefore, to understand how health services serve women victims of domestic violence in situations of social vulnerability, this scoping review was conducted from February to June 2023, proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute, using the BVS, PubMed, Embase, Scielo, PsycInfo, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, within the 2020 and 2021 timeframe. Six articles were analyzed, subdivided into two areas: Based on the results obtained, the discussion was guided by two main areas: violence against women as a socio-historical-cultural phenomenon and the search for health services by victims of domestic violence. The results indicate that health services remain poorly prepared to care for such victims, especially when the violence is not physical. Despite all the limitations and neglect they face, health services are crucial for recognizing and addressing cases of domestic violence. For them to fully and comprehensively address these issues, greater government investment is required, both in service infrastructure and in professional training. Furthermore, violence must be recognized with the importance it deserves and treated without stigma or trivialization.
