Abstract

The main objective of this study is to understand the influences and changes in the internal educational legislation of the Ginásio Municipal de Piracuruca-PI educational institution since the establishment of the civil-military dictatorship in Brazil. In this way, we will consider how the educational and behavioral processes at this institution were shaped during the dictatorial period by municipal agents who prioritized the ideas of order, morality, and, above all, obedience. Methodologically, the research focuses on analyzing documentation related to school legislation produced in the period preceding and following the establishment of the civil-military regime in Brazil, such as laws and decrees that guided Brazilian education, the School Regulations of the Municipal Gymnasium of Piracuruca from 1957, 1964, 1965, and 1967, and photographs produced by the school during the period studied. The historiographical framework is based on the discussions proposed by Britto (2002), which contributes to the understanding of local history, Araújo, Silva, and Santos (2013), which addresses the political and social context of Brazil during the period of the establishment of dictatorial governments and their implications for society, Almeida (2024) and Filgueiras and Araújo (2019) to understand the changes in the school curriculum during the civil-military dictatorship and also the promotion of civic and commemorative rituals linked to the teaching of history. Thus, the research presented here contributes to thinking about educational practices during the civil-military government period that took place in small towns in the interior of Brazil, enabling the construction of a historical consciousness that values the history, culture, and memory of educational institutions and, above all, critical thinking about this period of Brazilian history.
