This article, which falls within the field of bibliographic studies, uses its resources to recognize the importance of addressing the topic of an emancipatory curriculum for science education, considering the guiding standards for the implementation of secondary education in the Brazilian education system. It aims to describe issues that have permeated the trajectory of the curriculum and its theories over time, as well as perspectives on science education in relation to the content to be taught, based on the 2018 BNCC.
