DIABETES MELLITUS AND MENTAL HEALTH: DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS FOR INTEGRATED CARE

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic condition characterized by hyperglycemia, requiring continuous management, including insulin therapy in type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) and the use of oral antidiabetic drugs, with or without insulin, in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). In this context, the demanding routine of self-management can favor the development of emotional disorders, negatively impacting glycemic control and adherence to treatment. This study aimed to develop online scientific dissemination materials focused on promoting mental health in people with diabetes. The research adopted a two-stage methodological approach: (1) integrative literature review; and (2) content production for the @glicogotas Instagram profile, associated with netnographic analysis using the platform's Insights feature. Seventeen scientific articles selected in the review were used in the development of the materials, which highlighted the influence of sleep quality and emotional management on glycemic control. The posts reached an average of 1,085 views, with the content on "Type 1 Diabetes and Depression" standing out as having the highest engagement (1,470 views and 46 interactions). The analysis indicated that content related to subjective experiences and practical strategies for emotional coping generates greater public interest. Therefore, the developed online science outreach materials prove to be strategic tools for strengthening diabetes education on social media, transforming the virtual space into an environment of affective and humanized education and bringing the public closer to scientific discourse.
