EVALUATION OF THE EXPERIENCE OF PATIENTS UNDERGOING SURGICAL PROCEDURES: PERCEPTIONS ON THE QUALITY OF CARE AND THE HUMANIZATION OF CARE

This study aimed to understand the postoperative patient experience, focusing on recovery, quality of care, and humanization of care. It is a descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach, conducted with 20 adult patients undergoing elective and emergency surgical procedures at a municipal hospital in the interior of Maranhão state. Data collection was carried out through structured interviews with open-ended questions, and the accounts were analyzed according to the Content Analysis proposed by Bardin. The results showed that the postoperative experience involves physical, emotional, and subjective dimensions, with pain being a significant aspect at the beginning of recovery, later reinterpreted with clinical improvement. The performance of the healthcare team, effective communication, and the guidance received were identified as central factors for the patients' sense of security and satisfaction, although some specific weaknesses in care were noted. The hospital environment also influenced comfort and well-being during hospitalization. It is concluded that the postoperative experience is multifactorial and reinforces the importance of comprehensive, humanized, and patient-centered care.
