Abstract

Understanding and interpreting text genres are fundamental elements for the development of students' linguistic, cognitive, and social skills. In a society marked by the constant circulation of information in different formats and communicative contexts, it is essential that schools promote reading and writing practices that bring students closer to real-life situations of language use. In this context, text genres play an essential role in the teaching-learning process, as they represent concrete forms of social interaction present in everyday life. Working with text genres in the classroom allows students not only to develop reading, interpretation, and writing skills, but also to understand the communicative purposes of different texts, recognizing their structural, linguistic, and discursive characteristics. Furthermore, it fosters the formation of critical readers, capable of interpreting information, positioning themselves in relation to reality, and actively participating in society. Therefore, this study aimed to discuss the importance of understanding and interpreting text genres in the school environment, emphasizing the relationship between reading, writing, and social practices. This study also aims to present theoretical reflections and examples of pedagogical activities that contribute to the development of students' reading and writing skills, promoting more meaningful and contextualized learning.
