PROJECT AND COGNITION: SOME CRITICAL READINGS OF AI

In this article, we develop critical reflections on the limits of Artificial Intelligence. Beginning with Heidegger’s reflections, in which he questioned the meaning of human thought, we raise issues such as the distinction between thinking and algorithm, ethical risks, disinformation, and human responsibility for technological products. We highlight that AI system hallucinations reveal structural limitations. We identify problems such as the absence of open systems and the restrictions imposed on knowledge by closed AI architectures. We contrast two divergent visions of hybridization: those of transhumanists like Iannis Xenakis and Vernor Vinge. We draw attention to technological fantasies —such as superintelligence — that may reveal political attitudes of totalitarian control. The construction of open systems with democratic governance is defended to mitigate risks of control, surveillance, and concentration of power. Ethical warnings from the Asilomar conference and the need for system transparency are emphasized. Our analysis is grounded in recent critiques by Landgrebe and Smith.
