Considering the central role of health education in strengthening Brazil’s Unified Health System and the recurring fragility in its articulation with public health planning, this study addresses the problem related to the insufficient use of systematic monitoring and evaluation processes capable of supporting management and service organization decisions. It aims to analyze the contributions of monitoring and evaluation of health education programs to public health planning, seeking to understand how these mechanisms are articulated with management and care organization within the SUS. To this end, a narrative literature review was conducted, adopting a qualitative and theoretical-analytical approach, grounded in pioneering authors in the fields of public health, health evaluation and health planning, based on searches in national and international databases. In this way, it is observed that monitoring and evaluation, when systematically integrated into educational actions, contribute to the reorganization of work processes, rational use of resources and alignment of practices with territorial needs. This allows the conclusion that these mechanisms represent strategic tools for public health planning, supporting more qualified, contextualized and coherent decision-making aligned with the principles of the Unified Health System.
