NURSING AND THE INTEGRATION OF TEACHING AND SERVICE IN THE SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAM: PROMOTING HEALTH IN A RURAL COMMUNITY

The School Health Program (PSE) promotes the integration of health and education, strengthening actions for prevention and health promotion among students. This experience report describes the experience of conducting educational lectures on intimate hygiene, prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), and awareness of Pink October with elementary and high school students, developed by 6th-semester Nursing undergraduates, in partnership with the Family Health Strategy (ESF), in a rural school in a municipality in the interior of São Paulo state. The intervention took place in three phases: planning, execution, and evaluation. 114 students participated, distributed across three classes. The lectures were evaluated using a satisfaction form containing facial expressions (excellent, fair, and poor). The results indicated high approval (an average of 97.6% of "excellent" ratings), interest and curiosity in the topics covered, although with some shyness in asking questions. The most frequent questions involved sexuality, body image, and intimate hygiene. The experience enabled the development of educational and communication skills among undergraduate students, reinforcing the role of nurses as agents of health promotion. It is concluded that the School Health Program (PSE) is an effective instrument for dialogue on infection prevention, sexuality, and self-care, especially in rural contexts, contributing to the civic education of adolescents and the strengthening of intersectoral health practices.
