This chapter presents a study on the use of documentaries as a teaching resource in the context of Environmental Education, addressing both its theoretical foundation and the production process of an educational documentary. Initially, a brief history of the emergence of audiovisual resources in the world and their insertion in Brazil is presented. Then, the pedagogical potential of the documentary as an educational tool is discussed, articulating historical, conceptual, and methodological aspects. The production of the documentary constituted a formative process, which required theoretical research, pedagogical planning, technical mastery, and critical reflection. The documentary work was constructed from the narrative of a social subject whose life practice is directly related to critical Environmental Education, establishing connections between concrete experience, civic education, and socio-environmental commitment. The work was developed within the scope of the discipline Analysis and Production of Didactic Resources, of the Master's Program in Science and Mathematics Education at the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (IFES), with the educational product being the creation of a documentary. The objective of this chapter is to present, in a systematic way, the fundamentals, stages, and methodological procedures used in the construction of this pedagogical resource, contributing to the training of educators and to the strengthening of innovative educational practices in the field of Environmental Education.
