Abstract

Acute lymphoblastic leucemia (B-ALL) is a neoplasm that occurs in the hematopoietic system specifically with lymphocytes, the body's defense cells, causing a genetic mutation in the cells. Through this mutation, cell differentiation is compromised, causing the accumulation of cells not only in the bone marrow but also throughout the body. Chemotherapy is a more conventional treatment for treating the pathology, but it causes several side effects for the patient. CAR-T cell therapy has been introduced as a new treatment. This treatment is based on the removal of T cells from the patient and the insertion of the CAR in the laboratory. CAR has artificial receptors built to interact specifically with the target protein located on the surface of tumor cells, which will trigger an antitumor response as they are linked to the protein target receptor. The search was based on the PubMed database. A search was carried out in the following languages; English, Portuguese, and Spanish, adopting the search period from 2022 to 2023. Of the 36 articles listed, 8 were selected according to inclusion criteria. It was seen that the treatment using CAR-T cells in patients with ALL achieved great advancement and safety, with a 99% remission rate in children, including those with isolated or combined extramedullary relapse.
