TRATAMIENTO BIOLÓGICO DE EFLUENTES: MECANISMOS DE ELIMINACIÓN DE COMPUESTOS EMERGENTES

Resumen

La creciente presencia de compuestos emergentes en los cuerpos de agua, como fármacos, hormonas, plaguicidas y productos de cuidado personal, representa una amenaza para la calidad del agua y la salud pública. Estos microcontaminantes, incluso en bajas concentraciones, son biológicamente activos y a menudo no son completamente eliminados por los sistemas convencionales de tratamiento de aguas residuales. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este estudio es analizar los procesos de eliminación de compuestos emergentes en sistemas de tratamiento biológico. Se realizó una revisión narrativa de la literatura para explorar los mecanismos biológicos implicados en la eliminación de contaminantes emergentes. El estudio muestra que la integración de diferentes procesos biológicos puede mejorar la eficiencia en la eliminación de microcontaminantes, aunque persisten importantes desafíos en cuanto a la eliminación completa de estos contaminantes. Así, se concluye que resulta esencial analizar y optimizar los sistemas de tratamiento biológico, así como fortalecer el monitoreo ambiental, con el fin de mitigar los riesgos asociados a la presencia de compuestos emergentes en los recursos hídricos.
