A documentação textual nos indica que Frineia de Thespis era uma jovem vinda da Beócia para Atenas e se tornou ativa na participação do comércio do corpo, atuando como hetaira, devido aos encantos e beleza física ficou célebre, tornou-se símbolo da cobiça e da cultura masculina da elite de Atenas. Entretanto, pouco sabemos sobre Frineia de Thespis e o episódio que ficou marcante da vida da jovem hetaira foi a acusação de asebeia/impiedade realizada pelo seu ex-amante Euthias.
