ESG PRACTICES IN CREDIT COOPERATIVES: EVIDENCE FROM A CASE STUDY

This study analyzes the implementation and impacts of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices, using Sicredi Raízes RS/SC/MG as a case study. Amid a global scenario that values corporate responsibility and sustainability, it revisits the evolution of the ESG concept and its application to the cooperative model, which has historically emphasized cooperation and social inclusion. The research, grounded in the analysis of institutional reports, shows that the adoption of ESG principles which include efficient use of natural resources, environmental risk management, the promotion of ethical governance, and the implementation of social impact actions has transformed the management of credit cooperatives. In the case of Sicredi Raízes, initiatives that strengthen member participation, expand financial and educational services, execute community projects, and monitor social indicators stand out, contributing to the creation of shared value, institutional resilience, and market competitiveness. Although the study acknowledges methodological limitations, such as the analysis of a single case and the predominance of qualitative data, the results underscore the need for future research that employs mixed and comparative approaches. Thus, the work provides both theoretical and practical insights for advancing ESG practices, reinforcing the transformative potential of sustainability and cooperativism in promoting economic and social development.
