PERCEPTION OF PREGNANT WOMEN AND NURSES ABOUT HUMANIZATION PRACTICES IN THE BIRTH PLAN: INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract

The birth of a child is characterized by a moment of involvement and joy for all family members, in a unique experience permeated with meaning. The fear of natural childbirth affects a large proportion of women, whether due to fear of pain, traumatic reports from other mothers and even a lack of information. All of this can increase insecurity during childbirth. The time of birth must be respected in terms of the mother's wishes and decisions. It is up to the team of professionals to respect and welcome them, always aiming for their well-being and encouraging their empowerment. And often, creating a Birth Plan helps women go through the birth process in a more peaceful and satisfactory way. Therefore, this study aims to verify the perceptions of pregnant women and nurses regarding humanization practices in the birth plan in light of scientific literature. This is an integrative review with a qualitative approach of a descriptive nature. To better direct the guiding question, the PICO strategy was developed, generating the following question: What are the perceptions of pregnant women and nurses regarding humanization practices in the birth plan? The Virtual Health Library (VHL) and the LILACS and BDENF Databases were used with the health descriptors “Humanized Birth” AND “Obstetric Nursing AND “Childbirth” AND “Birth Plan”. Using the Boolean operator AND. The following inclusion criteria were adopted: Complete articles available in full; free and published in English, Portuguese and articles from the last 10 years. The exclusion criteria were used: Duplicate, paid articles that did not meet the objective of the study. After applying the search strategy, 20 articles were found to be accessible in the selected databases, 12 of which were excluded for not meeting the objective of the study. In this way, 08 articles were selected and read in full to compose the results. The studies show the humanization practices of nursing care in the birth plan, as well as the knowledge of pregnant women and professionals about the birth plan. Some practices still need to be worked on and implemented to provide assistance based on humanization. Failures in care and lack of knowledge regarding what the birth plan actually is are evident, given that many professionals associate it with prenatal care itself. It is clear that there is a need for more studies addressing these practices. Regarding qualified assistance and humanized care, the birth plan is undoubtedly necessary for the recognition of women as beings with autonomy over their bodies. In this way, the professional Nurse has the crucial role and duty of leading this woman to play her active role in labor and birth.
