MATHEMATICS AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES: BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF BASIC EDUCATION TEACHERS

This article presents and analyzes the results of an interview with elementary school mathematics teachers, an integrated initiative within a university extension project entitled "Computer Science and Mathematics Education: The Use of Digital Resources in Mathematics Teaching." The project, developed at a public university in Paraná, aims to strengthen the relationship between the university and the external community, promoting social and civic responsibility through training initiatives focused on the computer-mediated mathematics teaching and learning process. Eleven of the 15 invited teachers were interviewed to discuss their perceptions of the benefits and challenges of using digital technologies and software in mathematics teaching. Analysis of the responses revealed that, although digital technologies are recognized as resources for learning opportunities, their implementation still faces considerable challenges in streamlining instruction and placing the student as the protagonist in the teaching and learning process.
