Abstract

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an inflammatory condition affecting the skin, characterized by significant fragility of the skin barrier, accompanied by an intense and uncontrolled type 2 inflammatory response, causing discomfort and compromising the individual's health and routine. This condition typically begins in the first year of life and continues into adulthood in approximately 50% of cases. It worsens the quality of life of affected patients, interfering with socioeconomic and aesthetic aspects, and social interactions. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the quality of life of patients with AD in a referral hospital using the validated SCORAD and CDLQI/DLQI questionnaires as data collection tools. At the end of the study, data from 26 participating patients were collected. Thus, it was possible to reveal a high frequency of other atopic diseases such as asthma and rhinitis associated with AD. It was also demonstrated that lesions such as xerosis or lichenification are present in a significant portion of cases. It was also evident that the quality of life of patients with this condition is moderately affected by its clinical manifestations. Therefore, it was concluded that there are significant correlations between AD and quality of life, and further studies in this area are needed to determine more effective therapeutic strategies.
