THE ROLE OF INDIGENOUS WOMEN IN THE AMAZON: KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND RESISTANCE

This article seeks to reflect on the role of indigenous women in the Amazon, with an emphasis on ancestral knowledge and the leading role they play in the struggle for education as a form of social, cultural, and political resistance. This is a qualitative study, supported by bibliographic research and based on the writings of Tores (2005; 2007), Silva (2022), Alburquerque, Buecke (2020), among others. The study pointed out that indigenous women, since the processes of colonization and Brazilian territorial occupation, have faced multiple forms of gender, ethnic, symbolic, and other forms of violence. However, they play fundamental roles in social organization, the division of labor, culture, and the transmission of ancestral knowledge, as well as in the preservation of indigenous identities. By highlighting the leading role of indigenous women in the struggle for formal education, it is clear that this has been a strategic tool for resistance and affirmation in defense of their territories, languages, cultures, history, ancestry, ways of life, and right to exist.
