Neurogenic bowel dysfunction is a common complication in individuals who have suffered spinal cord injury (SCI), severely affecting them with significant restrictions in their social activities, thus having a major negative impact on quality of life (Krogh K et al). Megacolon is a significant condition presented by these patients, with population studies indicating that its prevalence can reach 30%, depending on the time elapsed since the injury and the adequacy of clinical management (Sartori JL et al). 26 years old, male patient, paraplegic due to a car accident, presenting with abdominal pain, altered bowel habits associated with chronic constipation, and an episode of sigmoid volvulus. The videocolonoscopy examination diagnosed megacolon, confirmed by barium enema which was addressed at a later stage through elective surgery involving rectosigmoidectomy and lymphadenectomy. The patient had a good recovery postoperatively and was discharged from the hospital after the appropriate period of observation.
