HEALTH EDUCATION ON SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS AND AIDS FOR ADOLESCENTS

Objective: To carry out health education and investigate adolescents' knowledge of STIs and AIDS before and after the educational intervention. Methodology: This is a before-and-after comparative intervention study, with a quantitative approach, carried out with a sample of 72 adolescents enrolled in public schools in the city of Picos - PI. Data was collected using a form with socioeconomic, clinical and knowledge variables on STIs and AIDS. Results: The data showed that 50% of the adolescents began their sexual lives between the ages of 13 and 14, 21% did not use condoms and there was an increase from 62.6% correct an swers before the health education to 71.5% after the intervention. Final considerations: Health education proved to be an effective way of increasing adolescents' knowledge about STIs and AIDS.
