THE AESTHETICS OF HEALING: BIOMEDICINE, AESTHETIC PROCEDURES, AND THE PRODUCTION OF IDEALIZED BODIES

This article investigates the interface between biomedicine and aesthetics, analyzing how contemporary medical discourses legitimize practices aimed at producing idealized bodies. The growing medicalization of appearance and the popularization of aesthetic procedures reveal the emergence of an “aesthetic of healing,” where health and beauty overlap under the guise of bodily normality. Based on bibliographic review and the sociology of health, the study examines the ethical, cultural, and symbolic impacts of this new biomedical rationality on bodies and subjectivities in contemporary society.
