MEDICINE AND CULTURE: POPULAR PRACTICES AND SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE IN CONFLICT OVER DRUG USE

This article investigates the tensions and conflicts between popular knowledge and scientific understanding in the use of pharmaceuticals in Brazil. From an interdisciplinary perspective, it analyzes how cultural, historical, and social factors influence practices such as self-medication, herbal treatments, and resistance to institutionalized biomedical knowledge. It argues that the interaction between traditional and scientific knowledge requires mutual recognition, intercultural dialogue, and inclusive public policies that consider epistemological plurality and respect for local care practices.
