Abstract

Teenage pregnancy is considered an early fact for this stage of life, resulting in serious implications, such as dropping out of school activities, risks for the fetus and the mother, family conflicts, social discrimination and even withdrawal from social groups. In this opportunity, it is up to society to reflect on the way in which it is dealing with the sexuality of young people, as well as the attention given to health and their sexual and reproductive rights, since pregnancy is not just about the sexual act, it is related to a psychological, socioeconomic and historical context. The objective of this work is to develop a reflection on the problem of pregnancy in adolescents, based on theoretical references. Justified by the need to know the impacts of teenage pregnancy, as well as to present them to society and the scientific community. What is the research problem: What are the factors that contribute to teenage pregnancy and the challenges faced by early pregnancy? This is a narrative review of the literature, with a descriptive character and a qualitative approach. To survey the articles, online databases and libraries were used, such as Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Virtual Health Library (BVS), using the descriptors: Adolescence, teenage pregnancy, and sex education. Subsequent to this selection, a reflective reading of the articles was carried out, where the results found in this reading were described, and an analysis with results related to the findings. Due to the facts addressed, it is seen that pregnancy is a period in which adolescents need support from the family and from society as a whole, since the process of motherhood brings with it several fears, doubts and anxieties, so there may be abandonment in studies and postpone their life plans. As a result, in addition to the baby's health, which may be affected, there is also the issue of the mother's health, who, due to various socioeconomic factors, decides to practice clandestine abortion, considering that despite being prohibited in Brazil, this is a frequent practice.
