Abstract

Globally, regional disparities persist, highlighting challenges in access to and the quality of healthcare services.  The research demonstrates the infant mortality from preventable causes in children aged 0 to 4 years in the Health Regions of the state of Pará-Brazil, from 2013 to 2022. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, using secondary data from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System/DATASUS/System of Information on Mortality/SIM. The results show that the health regions of Metropolitan II and Tocantins stood out for a reduction in infant mortality. The Regions of Marajó I, Marajó II, Araguaia, Baixo Amazonas, and Tapajós showed higher or stable numbers. The historical series showed a reduction of 23.8% in the number of deaths and a decrease of 17% in the infant mortality rates. The data may reflect the importance of investments in education, nutrition, and health infrastructure. The overall reduction in infant mortality may reflect advances in public policies and improvements in maternal and child health. The ongoing commitment to child health is essential to achieving a significant reduction in mortality and providing a healthier future for all children.
