Abstract

This paper addresses recent changes to the Maria da Penha Law, focusing on the new wording of Article 19, which regulates urgent protective measures aimed at preventing domestic violence against women. The main objective of the study was to analyze the impact of these new measures on reducing domestic violence and promoting gender equality. The specific objectives were to investigate and describe the legislative changes, assess the perceived effectiveness of the protective measures, and identify the main challenges in their implementation. The methodology adopted was bibliographic research, based on books, scientific articles, and official documents addressing the legislation and the issue of gender-based violence. The analysis revealed that the amendments to Article 19 represent a significant step forward by expanding access to protection and speeding up the justice system’s response. However, legal, institutional, and social challenges still hinder the effectiveness of these measures, especially in contexts marked by inequality and lack of infrastructure. It is concluded that, although the changes represent positive progress, it is necessary to strengthen the support network, ensure the ongoing training of professionals involved, and invest in integrated public policies to guarantee real protection for women.
