Abstract

This article introduces the concept of the "Modern Motherhood Syndrome" as a multifactorial psychosocial phenomenon rooted in contemporary motherhood experiences. Through theoretical analysis, a review of scientific literature, and an empirical study involving 858 Brazilian mothers, the research examines how the digital environment, idealized motherhood models, and the lack of systemic support affect the emotional health of women raising children in the 21st century. Using the BANI World model as an analytical framework—characterized by Fragility, Anxiety, Non-linearity, and Incomprehensibility—the study explores the effects of emotional overload, persistent guilt, and self-criticism, which impact most mothers. Research data reveals that over 96% of mothers frequently experience guilt, with 92.3% identifying the loss of patience with their children as the main trigger. These findings align with existing scientific literature and emphasize the need for institutional, clinical, and social recognition of mothers' emotional realities. The article proposes that naming this syndrome is the first step toward a more compassionate and effective approach to motherhood in the modern era.
