The emerging technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) have transformed libraries, their practices and products, making them more personalized, efficient and suitable for users of the digital generation. This article presents applications of emerging technologies in library practices. A theoretical contribution of the necessary relationships between the area of library science and the emerging technologies of the 4IR to present the opportunities for adoption of these technologies by libraries. This is an exploratory and descriptive research, with a qualitative approach. It uses bibliographic research to delve deeper into the topic and build a theoretical contribution on the adoption of emerging technologies in library practices and services. Emerging technologies applied to library practices, used by libraries in several countries around the world, are highlighted. There are numerous challenges that influence the adoption of emerging technologies by libraries. However, their adoption increases the efficiency and performance of the execution of their practices, making the library a center of innovation, digital inclusion and sharing and access to information for the entire society.
