The Turiaçu pineapple, a cultivar native to Maranhão, stands out for its superior sensory characteristics, such as high sweetness, low acidity and intense aroma, attributes directly associated with the region's climatic and soil conditions. The aim of this article is to present a comprehensive analysis of the agronomic, nutritional, cultural and economic aspects of this variety, highlighting its potential for sustainable development. The research was conducted by means of a bibliographical review, using databases such as SciELO, Google Scholar and the CAPES Journal Portal. From a nutritional point of view, Turiaçu pineapple is a rich source of vitamin C, beta-carotene, potassium, fibre and bioactive compounds such as bromelain, which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and digestive properties. Culturally, the fruit represents a symbol of regional identity, passing on traditional farming practices between generations and promoting local events such as harvest festivals. However, the production chain faces challenges in terms of logistics, infrastructure and access to wider markets. Obtaining a Geographical Indication (GI) is a relevant strategy for valorising the product, adding economic value and recognition. In addition, its use in agro-industry, cosmetics and bioproducts reinforces its potential for generating employment, income and sustainability. This study shows that the Turiaçu pineapple transcends its gastronomic value, consolidating itself as a vector for socio-economic development, cultural preservation and sustainable innovation in the region.
