Cervical cancer remains a serious public health problem, especially in developing countries, due to its direct relationship with Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection. This study aims to analyze the available literature in order to assess the quality indicators of cervical cytopathological examinations. The methodology used was a narrative review of the literature, with searches in databases such as SciELO, LILACS, PubMed and Google Scholar, covering publications from 2015 to 2025. The results demonstrate that collection failures, poor infrastructure, lack of standardized protocols, low adherence to follow-up and deficiencies in professional training compromise the effectiveness of screening. The literature highlights the importance of computerized systems, laboratory quality control and continuing education programs as essential measures to improve clinical outcomes and reduce mortality from cervical cancer. It is concluded that strengthening public policies, integrating services and systematically monitoring indicators are fundamental strategies to ensure the quality of exams and the success of screening programs.
