Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the four leading causes of death worldwide, being the third most frequent neoplasm, with approximately 1.9 million new cases and 0.88 million deaths annually (GLOBOCAN, 2023). According to the National Cancer Institute (INCA), it is estimated that 45,630 new cases of CRC will arise in our country; environmental, behavioral, and socio-cultural changes impact its incidence. This disease has a significant impact on the population’s public health and consequently financial repercussions for Brazil and the world. This article analyzes the influence of environmental and behavioral factors on the development of CRC, as well as the positive impact of controlling risk factors for this feared disease, aligned with the goals of the SDGs.
