Abstract

This chapter analyzes the initial training in School Psychology in the state of Goiás, Brazil, focusing on its historical development, legais frameworks, and curricular changes that have shaped psychology education in the country. Based on a qualitative and documentary approach, pedagogical projects, course syllabi, and internship programs from both public and private institutions in Goiás were examined. The results indicate progress in incorporating critical perspectives into professional training, especially those aligned with the Historical-Cultural Psychology approach and responsive to Brazil's educational and social needs. However, challenges remain, such as the persistence of traditional models, limited practical training for public schools, and insufficient integration between theory and practice. It is concluded that while initial training in School Psychology in Goiás has advanced, there is still a need to deepen critical and ethical-political formative processes that empower school psychologists as agents of social transformation.
