Abstract

Cleft lip and palate is a congenital malformation with a multifactorial etiology, involving genetic and environmental factors. Patients with this condition present morphological and functional alterations, including impairments in speech, mastication, hearing, and aesthetics, directly impacting their quality of life. This case report aims to present the rehabilitation of an adult patient with a complete post-foramen cleft, completely edentulous in the upper arch, highlighting the functional consequences resulting from the absence of early surgical intervention. The proposed treatment consisted of the fabrication of a maxillary complete obturator prosthesis associated with a mandibular removable partial denture, considering the patient’s refusal to undergo palatoplasty. The less invasive rehabilitative approach provided satisfactory outcomes, with improvements in masticatory function, speech, and self-esteem. It is concluded that prosthetic rehabilitation, combined with attentive and patient-centered care, is fundamental for achieving clinical and functional success in cases of unoperated cleft palate.
