IMPACT OF ESG PRACTICES ON THE FINANCIAL RESULTS OF PUBLICLY TRADED COMPANIES

The objective of this work is to demonstrate the relationship between the application of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices and the financial results of publicly listed organizations. To achieve this, the ESG scores provided by the Bloomberg platform were used and compared with the financial performance data of the companies. The research covers a five-year period, allowing for a grounded assessment of trends and correlations between ESG investments and financial performance. The methodology includes the collection of financial indicators such as EBIT margin, market value, ROE, ROA, net margin, and current liquidity, correlating them with sustainability indices (Bloomberg ESG Score) and corporate social responsibility. The results suggest that the correlations between the factors are distinct for each sector of the selected companies. The behavior of the results varies among companies even within the same sector, as different correlations were observed for each type of performance index analyzed in the sample. Consequently, a sectoral and individual analysis of the organizations is presented, detailing their behavior in each financial index in relation to the evolution of the Bloomberg ESG index. Considering the results obtained, it was not possible to find a pattern that consistently relates the financial performance of the sample companies to the ESG indices considered in the research.
