Abstract

Menopause is a natural event that brings about biological, emotional, and social transformations, significantly affecting women's mental health. During this period, anxiety and depression disorders are frequent and directly impact quality of life and well-being. The objective of this study was to investigate the occurrence of these symptoms in menopausal women (between 45 and 72 years old), considering the association with sociodemographic and clinical factors. The field research, of a quantitative and exploratory nature, used the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), complemented by a bibliographic analysis. The results pointed to a high prevalence of anxiety and depression symptoms in the sample. This occurrence was linked to factors such as sleep quality, physical exercise, medication use, insomnia, and mood swings. Although not all variables showed statistical significance, a trend of greater vulnerability was observed in younger women during menopause. In conclusion, the menopausal period requires comprehensive attention to women's health. Psychological and multidisciplinary support, along with the adoption of healthy habits, are fundamental strategies for the prevention and effective management of emotional symptoms associated with this phase of life.
