ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: A MARXIST ANALYSIS OF VAMPIRIC FETISHISM IN THE STRUCTURAL CRISIS OF CAPITAL

Abstract

This article proposes a critical analysis of so-called Artificial Intelligence from a Marxist perspective, based primarily on Volumes I and II of Capital. It argues that AI does not constitute an autonomous form of intelligence nor an emancipatory historical rupture, but rather the most complete contemporary expression of commodity fetishism. By concealing the social and material relations that produce it, AI appears as an independent force, when in reality it crystallizes expropriated living human labor, sustained by an intensive material infrastructure, subsidized by the State and functional to capital accumulation. The article analyzes the materiality of data centers, the double exploitation of living labor—wage-earning and unpaid—and the ideological role of relative overpopulation in managing the ecological and social crisis. It argues that contemporary barbarity, amplified by the climate crisis and the technological management of life, does not represent a deviation from the system, but its normal mode of functioning in structural crisis. Finally, it discusses how this reality manifests itself in social perception through dystopian art, while AI acts as a technical instrument for managing the historical impasse of capital.
