INTEGRATIVE AND COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH PRACTICES: OVERVIEW AND GENERAL ANALYSIS IN THE STATE OF SERGIPE

Integrative and Complementary Practices (PICS) encompass complex health systems that seek therapeutic resources that stimulate natural prevention and recovery mechanisms beyond the scope of conventional medicine. The implementation of the National Policy on Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC) in the SUS finds a favorable global scenario for its growth due to several factors, among them the holistic principle and the population's search for this form of treatment. The objective of this study was to analyze the trend in the number of PICS performed in basic health units in Sergipe from 2017 to 2025, associating it with primary care coverage. Secondary data analysis was performed through the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), as a form of organization in the period from June 2017 to November 2023 by health segment in the state. Data were obtained in a descriptive and correlative manner through temporal analysis. The capital Aracaju was the city that performed the most performed integrative and complementary practices in the analyzed period, followed by the municipality of Nossa Senhora do Socorro, and it was not possible to establish an association between the number of practices and primary care coverage. Patients and health professionals value and support the provision of PICS in the SUS, but most are not trained to perform these practices because undergraduate courses do not offer subjects that are not trained to perform these practices because undergraduate courses do not teach subjects that explain forms of treatment that fall outside the scope of conventional curricula.
