Abstract

This article discusses and deepens the analysis of Logical-Semantic Expansion Relations in academic articles. It presents a rigorous interpretative and analytical expansion of data obtained from the procedures of surveying, classifying, and analyzing explicit and implicit markers in the clause complexes produced by Literature students. Grounded in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and methodologically supported by Corpus Linguistics, the research examines 112 articles, 50 of which were manually read to identify implicit markers. The study aims to understand the usage patterns of Elaboration, Extension, and Enhancement/Emphasis relations, identify recurrences and absences, interpret the function of connectors, and observe the nuances of cohesion within and between clause complexes. The results indicate that the lexicogrammatical choices of the enunciators reflect both their mastery of textual cohesion mechanisms and their cognitive strategies of discursive organization. The findings also reveal that Enhancement/Intensification predominated among the types of Expansion, both within individual clause complexes and across distinct complexes. The article concludes by reaffirming the importance of thoroughly understanding these relations for the development of cohesive, articulated, and effective academic texts.
