Abstract

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is characterized by significant emotional dysregulation and impulsivity, representing a considerable clinical challenge. This systematic review aimed to analyze the scientific evidence on the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in the emotional regulation of patients with BPD. Eight articles published between 2020 and 2024 were selected and analyzed, following the PRISMA protocol. The results indicate that DBT promotes significant improvements in emotional regulation through mechanisms such as mindfulness training, distress tolerance, and cognitive restructuring. Emotional regulation proved to be a fundamental prerequisite for subsequent interventions with traumatic memories. It is concluded that DBT constitutes an effective intervention for emotional regulation in BPD, although its implementation in the Brazilian context faces challenges related to professional training and cultural adaptations.
