This study finds its relevance in the need to establish actions capable of mitigating the effects of violence experienced by women or even preventing such occurrences. In Brazil, the number of new cases of domestic violence and femicide is increasing, making it necessary for society to seek ways to address this social and public health problem that directly affects women, children, and families in general. Therefore, the objective of this research is to investigate the perceptions of female university students regarding a single self-defense body practice class in combating violence against women. To achieve this, a mixed-method approach was employed, using descriptive statistical techniques, word cloud construction, and content analysis to examine the issues raised by the students who participated in the study during a single self-defense class. The results show that 33.3% of the sample had already experienced violence by an intimate partner, and among these, 75% suffered more than one type of violence. There was also an increase in women's perception of their ability to physically protect themselves in a risk situation. We conclude that a single self-defense class was able to promote positive effects on women's perception, thus increasing their self-efficacy in dealing with situations of violence.
