SBN IN PERSPECTIVE: WHY WE NEED A STANDARDIZED CONCEPT

Recent research highlights the growing relevance of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) as a multifaceted approach to addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem degradation. This study aims to analyze the concept of NbS, focusing on the need for a universal definition to improve implementation and integration across different regions and contexts. A descriptive and exploratory literature review was conducted, analyzing scientific articles and official documents in databases such as Scopus and Web of Science, without time constraints. The results reveal the absence of a globally accepted definition, which creates ambiguities in policies and practices. Although NbS offer environmental, social, and economic benefits, inconsistencies in their interpretation hinder their widespread adoption. The study concludes that a standardized definition is necessary to ensure consistency and effectiveness in NbS strategies, recommending the development of normative frameworks that facilitate better integration between public policies, urban planning, and community initiatives.
